Irish whisky is made from barley and other cereal grains, though I couldn’t say if there is some rye involved in some products. In general, Irish whiskys don’t have rye (though I read that Jameson is planning to add some rye back to one of its whiskys). I haven’t heard of “soft whisky” but of course it could be a regional saying.
Canadian whisky is also not completely rye and is made from a mix of corn, rye, and malted barley. What makes Canadian whisky different is that each grain is distilled and then added together before bottling, which means the blend could have more rye whisky than the others. Thanks for the question!
