So this is the best way I understood it. It is formed from N-amino azidotetrazole and when it becomes the new compound it has a tremendous amount of potential energy after adding those other nitrogen bonds. When it is disturbed at all after that point, the potential energy is released. That's why this has only been made in a lab, I'm only aware of these researchers who were able to do it.
